E.S.C.A.P.E. — Encouraging Social Change by Altering Perceptions and Expectations. E.S.C.A.P.E. is a mentoring program that focuses on changing the world’s perception of our young men ages 11 and up by providing:
– classes in language and discipline;
– field trips to local businesses and corporations;
– encouragement to complete high school or GED equivalent;
– interviewing techniques and resume writing;
– computer skills;
– coaching on proper attire for an interview;
– appreciation for theater, arts and music; and
– instruction in financial planning and insurance.

EUCLID AARP Chapter #1550 has 146 members and provides both local and national information for seniors to keep them informed of their rights and up-dates. Good speakers throughout the year plus lively entertainment at the May Spring Fling and December Holiday Frolic. The group meets the first Monday of each month (with exception of May and Dec.) at the Euclid Community Center, One Bliss Lane at 1 o’clock. Due to Labor Day, the Sept 2009 meeting is on Sept 14. EUCLID HOSPITAL VOLUNTEER CARE: Euclid Hospital’s Comfort Runners make hourly rounds getting ice water, filling ice packs, fluffing pillows, opening beverage containers, answering lights or sometimes just being a good listener. They are trained Adult Volunteers, as well as Junior Volunteers ages 15-18 years old. Greeters serve at the front information desk, answering phones and directing visitors. Volunteers are also needed in the newly renovated gift shop. Contact Joyce Heuer at 692-8880.

If you love to work with kids and enjoy their smiles when they succeed, then become a volunteer tutor for Fred’s Club Tutoring Programs, Inc., located in Master’s United Methodist Church of Euclid, 771 East 260th Street. Fred’s Club Tutoring, a non-profit organization, needs volunteer tutors to help children who are recommended by their teachers for tutoring and helping children with their studies. Fred’s Club will be ready to start their tutoring for the year in October; however, there is a brief training session for tutors prior to the start of classes. Childcare will be provided for tutors with young children.

In celebration of the individual worth of each life, we strive to relieve suffering, enhance comfort, promote quality of life, foster choice in end-of-life care and support effective grieving.
Touch a life… Become a Hospice of the Western Reserve Volunteer. Volunteers are needed to pick up groceries, read stories, plan parties, address envelopes. They may also play games, write letters, share smiles, bake cookies, file papers, give hugs, hand out brochures, make calls, feed pets, gives speeches and much more! Volunteers may serve patients throughout northeast Ohio in their own residences, in alternative homes such as nursing homes, or at Hospice House. Every day you may be dealing with stuff like addictions, eating disorders, anger, abuse, pornography, drinking, pills, cutting, depression, troubled family dynamics, suicidal thoughts, and more. You don’t want to live like this, you want to break those bad habits, but where do you go to get real, lasting help?
LIFE HURTS … GOD HEALS, a biblically based 8 step program for High School students that provides a safe place for anybody dealing with hurts, habits and hang-ups. It will also give you lifelong tools for dealing with the pain and crises that come to everybody. Ongoing support is offered to youth facing the pain and difficulties of life through a program that utilizes a 13-week Biblical curriculum, small groups, mentoring and other tools. Thousands of teenagers have gone though this 8-step program and their lives have been changed! Maybe yours will be next! Boy Scout Troop 367 is designed to teach young boys, ages 11-17, responsibility, leadership, and other life skills. Activities include camping and community volunteer opportunities. Cub Scout Pack 312 is looking for a few good scouts! Eligible scouts are boys currently in first through fifth grade. Charter through East Shore United Methodist Church, 23002 Lake Shore Blvd (next to Marc’s) our Pack meetings are held on the third Friday of the month (there are some exceptions this year). Smaller den meetings are held bi-weekly. The annual fee is $35 per scout. Come and join us while we camp, earn ranks, and have fun! Ready! Set! Go! CUB SCOUT PACK 312 is host of the 2010 Glacier Ridge Pine Wood Derby! (To participate, you must be a registered Cub Scout representing your pack, so join Cub Scouts, and join the fun!) Winners of local packs within the Glacier Ridge District will compete to determine who will advance to Greater Cleveland Council Pinewood Derby. It will be held on Saturday, May 1st, 2010 at East Shore Church. Advance registration required, racing fans are welcomed to attend! Hey, it’s never too soon to start working on your car! Pack 312 will host a series of Pinewood Derby workshops to help you out!

NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATIONS
CHARDON HILL COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION--originally founded in 1944 and reactivated in 1997. CHCA serves homes on both sides of Chardon Road from Euclid Ave to the Richmond Hts. border including E 221, E 224, E 226, E 228, E 233,and all homes on Hadden Rd. On the North side of Chardon we include Dansy Dr., E 223, E 225, E 227, E 228, E 230, E 232, E 234, E 236, E 238, along with Fairlawn, Dawn, Overlook and Spino. Our purpose is to keep our neighborhood connected to the City Administration, elected officials and serves to promote civic betterment, neighborliness and a community spirit among our members. We hold periodic meetings and events at St. Ann’s Dining Hall, Lady of Lourdes Shrine located at 21281 Chardon Rd. Once a year we publish a newsletter to all members and for years have hosted a Halloween parade and party for children of the CHCA area.
