Cross country skiing’s here!  Ski on the perimeter of Briardale Golf Course (to avoid the lakes!) with your own equipment, and warm up in Sticks Pub & Grille afterward.  For your safety, check in with Sticks if you plan to ski so they know someone’s out there.

Fri Jan 16   Arts Collinwood Gallery opening from 6:30-9:30 PM“PHOTOGRAPHS FOR NEW CONVERSATIONS”; The Art of Jack Ricchiuto and Maurice Small.  Jack Ricchiuto, author (with Arts Collinwood trustee George Nemeth) of Instructions from the Cook: Recipes for New Conversations (as well as seven other books), is a writer teaching people how to have the kinds of conversations that have the power to create a future different from the past. His photography reflects a Buddhist aesthetic developed by thirty years of practice.  Maurice Small is Cleveland’s original Urban Farmer, a field consultant at the New Agrarian Center in Oberlin and Food Access Consultant at City Fresh. His favorite question is “What are you eating?” If there’s a meal Maurice has eaten that he hasn’t photographed, it was before he owned a camera. The opening will include a City Fresh cooking demo, readings from Instructions and a session of Thinkers & Drinkers (don’t ask. WATERLOO SEVEN STUDIO AND GALLERY’s feature attraction in Jan will be the fascinating things MICHELLE LAKE (of “Lake Effect Art”) does with glass and semiprecious gems. The collection includes fused-glass jewelry, and stemware embellished with jewels -– priced at only $15. Also on display are inventive metal sculptures by gallery owner Jerry Schmidt and his teen-age son, Tyler (the third generation of Schmidt metal sculptors). Three griddles still looking for a home:  The Kiwanis Club has 3 commercial grade electric griddles for sale, suitable for pancake breakfast or other griddle cooking fundraisers.  Griddle one is a 60 amp 220 volt griddle measuring 18 x 36 inches.  Griddles two and three are both 40amp 220 volt griddles measuring 18 x 24 inches. All griddles work but take two people to move them; they should be placed on your own roll about cart.   Email Bob Tilk at rtilk@sbcglobal.net to garner a griddle!
